The Utena Movie! As a standalone movie, it really doesn’t make a lot of sense. It’s so laden with metaphors that it can be difficult to make sense of even for people who love the series. Regardless, the visuals in this movie are absolutely stunning & unforgettable imo. Such lovely character revamps and so many rose petals!

I tried to place the cels in the order they appeared on film.

Windy Utena

Anthy: "What did you come to this academy to do?"

Utena: "I..."

Utena meets a mysterious girl in a rose garden high above the school who asks why she's there? Utena glances down at the rose signet she's just found, not quite sure what it means, but that it's got something to do with the answer to that very question...

I love this sequence; the rose petals flying, the wind whipping through their hair, the harpsichord music in the background... Definitely one of the most memorable scenes from the movie.

I'll probably never see the cel of Utena actually facing the viewer completely when she's being introduced to Anthy for the first time. Maybe one day I'll find some of the rose petal layers. It certainly looks like there were a few in this scene!
