Utena, Anthy & ChuChu - Ep26

Utena: "A letter from your parents! I envy you; I don't have any parents."

Kozue: "We don't need parents. We're wild animals after all."

Naive Utena expresses excitement that Miki & Kozue have received a letter from a family member, unaware of the complex relationship that the twins have with their parents. Kozue shuts Utena down hard; she's definitely one of the more self aware characters in Utena & one that has become more fascinating to me as time goes on.

What a great cel of Utena and Anthy together! This cel is actually 4 layers, one for Anthy's and Utena's bodies, Utena's eyes, Utena's mouth, and one layer for ChuChu 🙂 I just love Utena's expression here - she looks happy and hopeful.

Acetate Addiction graciously offered to allow me to purchase their sketch set for this exact cel. It is really neat having all the pieces of the animation process together for a piece. Thanks again! I also Included a sketch set that I acquired separately for this cel that has some beautiful & detailed sketches from Acetate Addition. They offered the sketches up after this cel popped up in my gallery; they are crazy wonderful people!
