I never thought that I would be much of a sketch collector. After all, Utena actually has cels! However, the more that I have collected, the more I am able to see the whole animation process & the work that went into making cels & the anime. It’s pretty fascinating!

These are various sketches from the TV show for which I do not have corresponding cels. I tried to place these in the order that they appear in the series.

Anthy Hanken Sketch

Beautiful! I still can't believe a piece this rare has wandered in my direction! I don't know that I ever seen anything that was related to hankens for Utena at all. To be able to have a sketch from a hanken from this series is just fantastic, especially one of Anthy :). This piece was drawn by Hiromi Kato himself (the animation director & key animator for Utena)!

This image comes from Super Special Foil Card #3 in Utena Carddass Masters Set 1, released 1997 in Japan. I have included a picture of the trading card.
